Doha Fort (Al Koot)
Doha fort is so-called “Al Koot fort” . This old building is in downtown Doha and consists of circle, triangle and square towers. Nowadays , it is home for various traditional paintings , ancient sculptures and other artifacts , etc.
In the former times, the makers had designed a funnel to provide ventilation and a cooling effect to the rooms inside the fort throughout the summer. It is open to the public daily, except for Saturdays and Friday Mornings. Admission is free.
By the way , there is one thing that can attract all visitors who come to Qatar, “Souk” or open-air market. If you have a chance to travel here , don't miss this. It is great to see the haggling between buyers and seller. Sometimes, you don't want to buy anything , but it is really fun to see how mad the merchants are.
Qatar is an excellent place to sample renowned Gulf and Middle Eastern dishes although international cuisine makes up a key part of buffet services at hotels and restaurants. Qatari cuisine consists of the standard Middle Eastern fare of tabbouleh (chopped parsley, mint and crushed wheat), byriani (spiced rice mixed with chicken or lamb) and shawarma (slices of grilled lamb or chicken rolled inside a pocket of Arabic bread). Hospitality lies at the heart of Arabian culture and it is common for Qataris to invite visitors into their homes to sample spiced Turkish coffee. Alcohol is only sold in restaurants and bars attached to hotels.
