Besides Nation and The King, Religion is also the most important institutions for all Thais. What will they do for the religious day which is coming up.

Besides the Buddha's teaching, the important Buddhist holy days are something all Buddhists always give priority to. Every year, on the full moon day of the 3rd lunar month, Makha Bucha is held. Not only to make a merit, but also to commemorate the Buddha. For this year, Makha Bucha day is on February 13, 2006.

Makha is shorten from "makha buranamee", the veneration of Buddha and his teachings on the full moon day of the 3rd lunar month.

Makha Bucha is the day on which Buddha gave the Arhantas the principles of the Buddhism, called "The Ovadhapatimokha" at Veluwan Temple in Rajgaha City of Magaha State. Those principles are: - To cease from all evil, - To do what is good, - To cleanse one's mind.

All Buddhists know this day as the "Jaturongkasannibath" which actually called the Fourfold Assembly because it consisted of four factors:

1.There were 1,250 Sangha followers, that came to see the Buddha that evening without any schedule.

2.All of them were ordained by the Buddha himself.

3.All of Sangha followers were Arhantas.

4.It was the full moon day.

What are the buddhists do in MaKha Bucha Day ?

1. Make merit and offer food to the monks.

2. Go to the temple for practice the dharma and listen to the sermon.

3. Vientien (Attending the Candle Light Procession around the Uposatha Hall, in the evening of the Vesak full moon day).

4. Decorate homes and official places with national flag.
