How to diaper your newborn

Having a new baby is a wonderful experience and can be a terrifying one! Many new parents face the arrival of their new baby with great anxiety. The responsibility of caring for such a little person can be overwhelming. The following tips for diaper changing your baby may help you through the early days.

What you need :

- Diapers
- Plastic bag for diaper disposal
- Vaseline
- Powder
- Lotion

How to diaper ?

- Clean your hands before diapering your baby.

- Place your child down on a clean, dry, warm area. It will be better to use a changing table and you should strap your baby in for safety.

 

  
Unfasten the diaper tabs and fasten them back on themselves so they don't stick to your baby.Don't remove the dirty diaper because you have to use it wipe any poop away.

 

 

Grasp your baby's ankles to lift his bottom off the table. Next,fold the dirty diaper in half under the baby, unsoiled side up.

 

 

 

Use a wet cloth to clean your infant's front thoroughly. For a girl , make sure to wipe the genital area from front to back to avoid a bacterial infection. For a boy, place a clean cloth over your son's penis. He won't be urinate on himself while you are changing him a diaper. For both sexes, don't forget to wipe over the creases.

 

 

 

 

Apply lotion, Vaseline or powder on both your baby's front and back.

 

 

Lift the baby's bottom off the changing table and slide in a clean diaper. Open the diaper. Remember the diaper half with the tabs should go under your baby's bottom. Bring the diaper forward by placing it in between your child's legs. Fasten the diaper at both sides with the tapes. If your newborn has an umbilical cord, never cover this area with a diaper. Just fold down the front of the diaper slightly .

 

 

 

- Dispose of old diaper by wrapping tabs all the way around and securing inside a plastic bag if desired.

- Clean your hands.

 

NEVER leave your baby alone on the changing table not even for a second. If the telephone or door bell rings, let it ring. You don't want to risk having your baby rolling off the changing table and getting serious injured.
