Q: What should I do when I have got a stomachache?
A: Go to see the doctor.

Q: What should I do when I have got a headache?
A: Take a medicine.

Q: What should I do when I am sleepless?
A: See the doctor or take some sleeping pills.


Illness, both physical and mental, is all around us everytime everywhere. “See the doctor or take a medicine” are the top five suggestion. It is not wrong but not good enough because the real causes of these health problems still remain. Why are we sick? Environment and lifestyle are considered the main factors because wrong lifestyle in bad environment can unbalance the inter-relationship between body, mind and spirit and leads to health problems.

Health experts have suggested various ways to balance those three. There are such as living in harmony with nature and being possitive mind. “Macrobiotic” is also one of the ways to live with nature. What is macrobiotic? Translated litterally, macro is the Greek word means “Great” and bios is the word for “Life”. It is a way to learn how to live within natural order of life. And we begin with “Macrobiotic Diet” because it seems to be the easiest way to create the best possible condition for health. Whole grains, including brown rice, barley, whole wheat, fresh fruits and vegetables are acceptable for macrobiotics but meat, eggs, spices, sugars, coffee and alcohol are denied.

In addition, it does not means that we can eat those suggested foods as much as we want. In fact, there is the limitation of intake each day. The following information is the appropriate consumption.

50 % whole grains
25 % seasonal vegetables both cooked and raw
10% protein foods (vetable or soy products or fish are recommended)
5% sea vegetables such as seaweed
5% soups
5% fruits, seeds, nuts and pure water

According to macrobiotic principles, macrobiotic food should not be cooked by microwave or any cooking appliances because enzyme in these foods may be destroyed. Stove or gas stove should be used instead.

Besides the diet, try to do these ways which can help you to live in harmony with nature:

- relax by planting. Plastic tree cannot be replaced
- wearing attire made of natural fabrics
- ornaments and cosmetics should be avoided
- go to bed before 10.00pm and get up at 04.00am
- be positive thinking and appreciate everything happened in your life
- use natural treatment such as herbal therapy, yoga therapy, massage therapy, etc.

Please remember to chew well, exercise regulary, drink pure water and be grateful for every experiences. Just do these practices regulary, you will find a great way for health and certainly for life.
